Farquarson clan history
The Farquarson surname originates from the Gaelic MacFhearchair, meaning ‘son of Farquhar’. Farquhar, in turn, is derived from the Gaelic word Fearchar, signifying ‘very dear one’. Therefore, the name translates to ‘son of the very dear one’.
The Farquarson family’s roots can be traced back to Aberdeenshire, a region in northeastern Scotland. They are descendants of Farquhar Mackintosh, who settled in Braemar in 1382. The Clan is a prominent member of the Clan Chattan, a powerful confederation of 26 Clans. As a sept of the Clan Chattan, their close alliance with the MacKintoshes has been beneficial, given the latter’s leadership within the Clan.
The Farquharson family motto is “fide et fortitudine” which translates to “by fidelity and fortitude”
